There are 2 types of material used to build a kayak: plastics and composites (glass fibers, carbon fibers and Kevlar).
Different materials for different kayaking styles
Plastic is the material used for all kayaking activities except sea kayaking and touring kayaking. For the latter two, which require high-performance kayaks, a composite material reinforced with glass fibers, carbon or Kevlar is used. PINETTE PEI supplies thermoforming lines for this second type of kayak.
