Presses & robotic cells: stamping thermoplastic composites

PINETTE PEI is a well-known press supplier to the composites industry. Following numerous projects, we have developed expertise in the design and manufacture of hydraulic presses and robotized cells for stamping thermoplastic composites. We’re proud to be able to supply production solutions and equipment to leading manufacturers in the aeronautics and space industries.

Our production systems for processing carbon thermoplastics with PPS, PEI, PEKK or PEEK matrix are compact cells that can operate in automatic or semi-automatic mode, enabling very short production cycles to be achieved and repeated. The entire system has demonstrated its reliability, speed, low noise level and ease of use, thanks in particular to the system for controlling and regulating temperatures during the stamping phase.

Extending our expertise, PINETTE PEI also offers stamping lines and cells dedicated to R&D and small batch production, optimized for maximum flexibility and exemplary precision. What’s more, our overmolding technology enables us to add functions to create composites with enhanced properties, meeting the specific requirements of the most innovative and critical projects.

Custom Stamping Solutions: Tailored to Your Specific Needs

Depending on requirements, we can supply short-, medium- or long-wave infrared ovens with independent programming zones. The low thermal inertia of our infrared ovens enables precise temperature control, thus reducing the system’s energy consumption.

Temperature control and continuous data acquisition are provided by a PLC system. The operator console to which the PLC is connected displays error diagnostics and electrical diagrams. The transfer carriage, which automatically loads the blanks – front or rear loading – is fully programmable and designed to withstand very high temperatures.

These stamping cells have been designed to minimize the time required for maintenance operations, in particular by providing easy access to the hydraulic power pack and remote maintenance modem, so that remote diagnostics can be launched and solutions found quickly.

All our installations comply with international and regional regulations (CE, UL, OSHA, etc.) and are controlled by industrial PCs. To avoid hazardous situations, our production lines are equipped with immaterial protection (lasers, radar, etc.), doors, enclosures and protective barriers, access doors with safety sensors, platens locking devices and dust and fume extraction hoods.

Overmolding

Thermoplastic stamping, a key process at PINETTE PEI, shapes thermoplastics at high temperatures to create lightweight, robust structural parts, particularly appreciated in the automotive and aerospace industries. Overmolding, as a complement to this technology, offers significant added value for the manufacture of structural components:

  1. High structural performance Enables the creation of complex parts with high structural performance.
  2. Precise finishing Overmolding ensures a smooth, clean surface for parts, including edge finishing.
  3. Feature integration: Metal inserts can be integrated to transmit loads, increasing the functionality of molded parts.

This combination of stamping and overmolding opens up new avenues for the design of complex components, optimizing the functionality and efficiency of the composite materials used.
